Perimenopause & Menopause

Perimenopause refers to the transitional period leading up to menopause, with “peri” meaning around. Symptoms of perimenopause can start in a woman’s early 40s, though the timing varies.

These symptoms can be physical, emotional, or both, and sometimes women may not recognise them as being related to perimenopause, especially if they’re still having regular periods. Understanding the cause of these changes can provide reassurance for many, helping them realise that these symptoms are a normal part of the transition.

Menopause is the point when a woman no longer has periods, marking the end of her menstrual cycle. It’s a natural life stage, but the age at which it occur’s and the symptoms experienced can differ widely from person to person. In some cases, menopause may be triggered by certain surgeries or cancer treatments, which can cause more sudden or intense symptoms.

If you’re experiencing symptoms that are affecting your enjoyment of life or work, it’s a good idea to talk to your GP or a practice nurse.
